The Academy Program may generate  significant revenue for the instructor and stable:

Hourly rates for lessons range from $25-$50 depending on your market.  Group lessons are time efficient and financially beneficial.

Students are charged $150-$400 (depending on show location) to attend a horse show.   Two or more students may ride the same horse, decreasing instructor’s cost, increasing income.

Students may want to purchase their own horse, thus a market for the $3,500-$20,000 experienced horse. 

How does the

Academy Program work?

INSTRUCTORS—THREE TYPES

Works out of own stable with lesson horses

Travels to client to teach using client’s horse

Travels to another stable & uses lesson horses owned by the stable

LESSON HORSES

Stable may own

Stable may use someone else’s horse for lessons and charge a reduced rate for board

Student may own lesson horse

ACADEMY PROGRAM MAY BE        SEPARATE FROM THE TRAINING    OPERATION

Stable may have instructor on staff or may have part-time instructor

Lessons may be given in late afternoon or evening so as not to conflict with the training operation

COMPETITION IS KEY TO SUCCESS OF ACADEMY PROGRAM

Winter Tournaments—shows in Jan, Feb & Mar at stables or heated arenas.

National Academy Championship is held each year on Saturday morning of National Trainers Show in Tenn.

Horse Show circuit may offer Academy classes in an early pm session or add classes to regular show schedule.

WHOA provides all technical support for the Academy Show.  They supply ribbons and minimal funding .
